In the «Lab Visits», I brought artists, curators and other people from the artworld into ETH AI Center labs, centers, groups, faculties to meet professors, phD students and phD and Post-Doc fellows and researchers in the context of the AI Center.
The ETH AI Center had 122 faculties and laboratories back then. To get a better insight into their work and research, I organized monthly Lab Visits with artists and curators during the semester. The meetings between artists and scientists were always fascinating and inspiring and led to great conversations. Like this, the Lab Visits served as effective door openers for collaborations and interest in both directions.
They were a bottom-up movement that took place in a small, intimate setting. Often these encounters with researchers lead to further collaborations on talks or even projects. The visits were a direct way to identify faculty interested in art and integrate them into the AI+Art team, so to speak. At the same time, they allow to see first-hand how art in the labs is helpful for research and, conversely, how it can support research.
